8 Questions to Ask About Your Agency’s Social Media Presence

This quarter is all about change. For many agencies, change is something that must happen in order for marketing, technology, and sales to work together and help your business grow. Having someone in-house to help with your social media and Internet marketing efforts is a strategy we suggest in order to see the best results.

If you are the new social media intern, or a CSR given the responsibility of updating social media for the agency, where do you start? The best thing to do to get started is to revamp your social media sites. They are most likely being updated with industry posts, but missing the information that can highlight agency culture, engage current customers, and gain potential leads.

So whether you are the new social media specialist or just looking for some new ideas, here are some questions to ask about your agency’s current social media strategy:

1. Are you using a schedule? Sometimes it is a good idea to decide what type of content you will post on what day. This way your followers know what to expect.

2. Do you use photos? Photos get the most engagement! Users are now using photos on Twitter and LinkedIn as well. Use images whenever possible.

3. Are you tracking links? If you track your links you can see how many people are clicking on your content. Use sites like bit.ly, goo.gl, and tiny.url to track links.

4. Are you sharing blog posts more than once? You can share a blog multiple times on Twitter. Don’t forget to post it on other social sites as well, you want to increase traffic to your agency VIO from social media sites, and blogs are a great way to do so.

5. Do you post too much?? Recent statistics have shown that less is more. It is about quality over quantity. This is especially true for Facebook posts and blogging.

6. Is the agency just using Facebook? Remember to branch out to other social media sites, but also know which sites are best for your agency. If you are focused on mainly commercial lines, more time on LinkedIn might be necessary.

7. Doing everything right but still no engagement? Try running a contest, having employees like and share statuses, and tag other businesses (when relevant).

8. Is your Twitter account one-sided? Remember it’s not just about having a newsfeed and sharing content, it’s about conversation and interaction. Try to re-tweet more accounts and have conversations with other users. (Additional tip: Using a person as the “face” of the Twitter account tends to help get more followers and engagement).
