Metaphysical author and teacher Stuart Wilde said a journey is not a straight line that rises from one level to another. Instead, it is a series of steep climbs and flat plateaus, then further climbs.

My unanticipated detour

Some of you have noticed an absence of updates on my fitness journey previously discussed in this forum. The truth is that life put me on an unanticipated detour early in 2013. To maneuver that path I lost sight of my intended destination for a while. I chose to follow the detour, and that was fine. Life happens. To recap, between March of 2011 and December of 2012 I had lost 106 pounds and gained a whole lot of insight into myself and those around me.

Getting back on track

And now, I bid good riddance to 2013 having gained 62 pounds back – a significant detour! As I am writing this I can tell you that I’ve decided to return to my journey’s original path, with my destination back in view. I have lost 7 pounds – a good start!

It should come to no surprise that I love technology. The first thing I did when I decided to get back on track was to download the updated app I use to track nutrition and exercise. I was pleasantly surprised to see a number of updates had occurred to this app I already loved. The updates made the tool better, but also re-engaged my interest and added to the excitement of getting back on track.

What was your detour?

What outside challenges clouded your view of your destination last year? ACA, related questions, early renewals, constricted client human resource personnel – any of these things resonate? Did you go into survival mode like many of the brokers I visited in 2013 did, and as I did in 2013? Now is the time to re-establish your goals! Are you looking to increase the number of initial meetings you have with prospects, close more deals, increase client retention? Of course!  My advice is to check out the tools you already have at your disposal. What changes have occurred that you can use to spice up your cold call campaigns, new prospect demos, or service menus? (Zywave Partners, start your tour on Zywave University!)

Let me know what you find that sparks new ideas for you, and I’ll update you on my own journey from time to time.
