Do you pick and choose your words carefully? Sometimes when you are composing an email, speech, or other type of written work, you may not contemplate which words will be most effective in getting your point across. However, as a leader, you must take into account how your words affect your customers and the insurance products you sell. Therefore, learn how to tell your story of success and leadership authentically and honestly with these six ways to make your words more meaningful:

  1. Make sure that your words are supported by your actions. It is important to understand your own message by supporting your actions. If you cannot maintain the integrity of your words, then they remain powerless. So use positive words that build up and not tear down.
  2. Be transparent. Nobody is perfect nor has all the answers. This is why you shouldn’t put up a façade. Instead, make your words reflect the authentic you, because transparency shows your humanity and allows your customers to trust you.
  3. Ask more often than you tell. Having curiosity in people’s ideas and knowledge will allow you to learn much more. By incorporating these lessons into your message, your peers will continue to share and encourage you to share your words as well.
  4. Hold people accountable for their role and be accountable for yours. Always clearly communicate expectations because people will live up to the ones you set, as long they can see you are living up to them as well.
  5. Communicate your Vision.  As the leader, communication is key. By expressing your vision with the right words, you can tie the message into every initiative, project, and event. Your employees and customers all crave to be involved with something larger than themselves.
  6. Be visible. Becoming more open to your customers and employees will show you are welcoming and willing to listen. You can become visible by simply using social media, written communication, appearing at team meetings, and more. Visible leaders create engagement and inspire confidence.

Finally, remember your insurance marketing strategy will play a large role in how your words are expressed to the public. Since you are adding to your story each day, it is important to be critical of yourself and to make sure everything is authentic so your words can prevail!
