When it comes to social media, some people will either go overboard or not give enough. If you are new to using Twitter, Facebook, or Linkedin, how do you know how much is too much? This corresponds with posts, how many fans or followers you have, how many links, hashtags, and sales pitches you use on a daily basis.

Social media has changed our culture by changing the method that we communicate. Therefore, where the people go, the businesses follow. According to SocialMediaToday, this is because social media has allowed consumers to make decisions based on peer reviews, online research, and the ability to look at any website that mentions a company or product.

This phenomenon has led many companies to embrace social media as a way to reach and interact with their customers. But how can your insurance agency shine with millions using social media every day? Too little exposure, and your markets won’t hear about you, too much exposure, and they will quickly tire of hearing about you. If you’re looking for an exposure level that is just right, then follow these recommendations:

Don’t try to be everywhere

  • Don’t update your Twitter every five minutes to be heard. Instead, make sure every post has a purpose. If you are posting just to increase exposure and not engaging or interesting your followers, they may stop following you.
  • Putting yourself on too many social media sites isn’t a good idea because if you don’t have the manpower to monitor, update, and interact with all of your social media audiences, none of them will visit your site.
  • The best way to use social media is to pick a few outlets and truly engage in those social communities.

By following these tips, you can improve your insurance social networking strategy tremendously. Focusing on creating content that will be more than just engaging to your audience will dramatically increase your site visits as well as followers and fans. The creativity and simplicity you put into your blog and social media posts will be your solution to a successful future!

  1. How much is too much? Article didn’t say, just stated you shouldn’t over or under use Social Media.

3 Facebook posts a day? What time is the best time of the day to hit the most faces? Should we post once or twice a day on the weekends to keep our name out there? Should we use our key words in our FB posts?

    Thank you,
    Doug

    • Hello Doug,

For Facebook and Twitter, 3-5 posts a day is plenty, which could include local events and news as well as your blog posts from your insurance website. You can use your keywords in your FB posts, but the most important time you should be using your keywords is when you post about your blog on your social media pages. For Twitter, it is also a good idea to hashtag your keyword, such as “#OhioBusinessInsurance” or any other keyword that you are using in the title for that particular week. The best time of the day for posting is typically right when you get to work in the morning and sometime around or a little after lunch during the afternoon. It is not necessary to post on weekends, however, if you want, one post is fine, but if you have a great story or item to share with your followers, than by all means post it!

      Hope this helps,
      Elizabeth
