Whether your agency is doing exceedingly well, or whether it is struggling, one thing will get you through the ups and downs: motivation. When you have a team that is intrinsically motivated, passionate about their job, and focused on short and long-term goals, you have a recipe for success.
When employees are motivated to do good things, and they believe in the goals of the agency, that feeling is felt everywhere. From the management, to the staff, all the way to your clients – motivation and belief in what you are doing is the best thing you can do for your agency.
How can you work to motivate your employees and help your agency succeed?
- Set clear expectations for your employees
- Thoroughly explain roles and responsibilities – put it in writing so there is no confusion
- Develop an organizational structure for handling problems – who goes to who if a situation arises that needs immediate attention?
- Always listen to your team and encourage them to provide input. You can do this easily by having a simple monthly meeting during which team members are encouraged to bring their ideas for the future, concerns about current practices, and share wins that can motivate everyone else to do their best, too.
- Encourage a bond between your agency members – team building activities, or even a lunch together can maintain a positive balance.
- Always reward those who go above and beyond – it gives them (and everyone else) something to strive for when they realize the benefits of going the extra mile.
- Are there any training aspects your team would benefit from? Ask them!
- Display motivational thoughts and pictures throughout your agency to inspire everyone to believe!
