Going along with yesterday’s post, today we’re going to continue the discussion on generating blog post ideas because let’s face it, we all eventually hit a wall when we feel like our oasis of ideas has dried up. Don’t let blogger’s block keep you from writing creative and original content because, at the end of the day, content is king. If you find yourself repeating the same themes and phrases over and over again, you may need to reevaluate your strategy. Generating new ideas isn’t hard at all; it just takes a little bit of work and some time. If you follow these tips, you’ll be crushing blog posts left and right in no time!
1. Consult your co-workers! Ever hear of the expression “easier said than done?” Well, this first tip falls under “easier done than said.”If you’re struggling with generating new content, a simple email to everyone in your department or office asking for advice takes no time at all. Often, talking with others will lead you to blog topics you may have never before considered. Also, if you stumble across information online that you think could be helpful for others, always send it to your co-workers. You scratch their back and they’ll scratch yours!
2. Be aware of location and geography: When blogging for your agency, your location is especially important. If you’re near the mountains, blog posts relating to health insurance and hiking or skiing can work really well. On the other hand, if you’re near the water or ocean, there are countless topics such as boating, swimming, surfing, etc. that can lead you to quality content.
3. Don’t be afraid of popular culture: Tying insurance into pop culture topics such as movies, television, and music can bring your blog posts more down to earth on a level that readers can understand and relate to more effectively. Spicing up your blogs creative is important because it takes a step away from the usual mundane tone of a blog post without any inspiration. If you want to keep your readers coming back for more, you need a little humor and cultural relevance every now and then.
4. Just write! Sometimes, doing a little free writing on a blank sheet for a few minutes can lead you to find different angles and approaches you may have never thought of before. You may have to hit backspace a lot and this process may take a bit more time, but one of the large benefits is that everything is coming from your mind and nowhere else. Talk about original content!
Listen, everyone gets stumped, but it’s up to you to get out of the valley you’re in and get back on top of the hill. Your blog is an indispensable aspect of your insurance agency website and you cannot afford to let it sink beneath your means.
