A few weeks back, we looked at the Do’s and Don’ts of Twitter. Hopefully you all took notes and improved your tweeting ways. Now, it’s Facebook’s turn! Like Twitter, Facebook is great for insurance marketing. By having a business account profile, as well as a Page for your business you can get in touch with clients and recruit local fans. However, the way you treat your personal Facebook profile is a lot different than how you treat your business one. Let’s pinpoint some of these differences:
DO upload a nice picture of yourself and add pictures from local & business events.
DON’T tag yourself in photos from a party or anything that could be taken as offensive.
DO reach out and add people with similar interests.
DON’T add random people just for the sake of 1,000 friends.
DO post on a regular basis, with business, personal and funny content.
DON’T post the same link over and over again.
DO “like” a friend’s status if it says something to you.
DON’T “like” anything and everything posted. Your friends will catch on.
DO add a good friend who is interested in your business.
DON’T add all your high school and college buddies…use a personal account for that.
DO be professional about posting and commenting on other’s walls.
DON’T put a link to your website on your fan’s walls on a daily basis.
DO engage in Facebook chat if you have any questions or comments for your clients.
DON’T start a Facebook chat with a random fan for no reason.
DO fill out information about yourself that shows your personality.
DON’T add obnoxious groups and inappropriate pages to your biography.
DO support local businesses and even competitors.
DON’T draw your clients to your competitors by linking to them.
DO post a status about your great day.
DON’T complain and be negative…that will not look very well to potential clients!
For the most part, the key is to just be yourself and keep it professional! It should not be very hard. Before you know it, you will have a great fan base on your Facebook page. Good luck!
