It seems like everyone is tweeting these days—it’s great! In the world of insurance marketing, using Twitter can only benefit you…if you use it the right way. You are able to get information and new links out to the masses in the click of a button, which is great! However, if you choose to abuse Twitter many of your followers may start to unfollow you. We do not want this to happen to you—which is why I have decided to enlighten you all on what is considered good and bad in the world of tweeting.

Ladies and gentlemen— The Do’s and Don’ts of Tweeting:

DO share links to your updated blogs.

DON’T share the same link 20 times a day.

DO follow people with the same interests and engage in conversation.

DON’T follow every random person that follows you just to increase your numbers.

DO fill out your bio with fun facts about yourself.

DON’T use your business links to represent your bio.

DO use a background that expresses your personality

DON’T use colors that will strain your follower’s eyes.

DO add a #hashtag in your post so others can find your tweet while searching

DON’T use a #hashtag for every single word of your tweet.

DO tweet about something interesting to break up your insurance marketing tweets.

DON’T tweet about how bad works sucks at the moment. Keep it positive.

DO RT someone if you genuinely find it interesting or funny.

DON’T RT just for the sake of RTing.

DO upload a nice picture of yourself.

DON’T upload your company’s logo to represent yourself.

DO send a direct message to personally thank someone for following you.

DON’T send a direct message with spammy content and links.

DO give your opinion when asked.

DON’T start an argument over twitter.

DO tweet an inspiring quote.

DON’T tweet an inappropriate or offensive joke to cause a stir.

The biggest DO of all? Have fun with twitter! DON’T make Twitter become a chore just to have your company receive attention. The only way to be absolutely successful using social media is to understand it and take full advantage of it. All it takes is a little patience and your rock star personality to win over your followers. Happy Tweeting!
