UPDATE: Google Ends Authorship Feature

In an unfortunate turn of events, Google announced yesterday that it has ended the Google Authorship feature and will no longer be showing it in their search results. For those who have been working hard to build up their credibility and reputation as a content publisher, this may seem like a huge blow to your efforts. However, don’t get discouraged! Having a reputation for being a consistent producer of high quality, relevant, and valuable content is never a bad thing, whether you have Authorship markup in the search results or not.

Earlier in the month we posted about an update that Google had made to Authorship. Even though the feature is now defunct, it is still important for you and your agency to continue to produce fresh, unique content that serves as a value-add to your customers, prospects, and search engine users. Regardless of the Authorship feature, producing said content will still show Google and the other search engines that you are continually providing people with information and content they can use, that you are still relevant.

Just because Google Authorship is over, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t continue to consistently blog and produce high quality content. Keeping up your efforts will only serve to identify you as a quality source of information.
