As an agency it’s important to stay active on your social media accounts. Not only should you be posting news and updates about new blog posts or insurance services that you offer, but you also should be posting relevant news and information you think your consumer base will find interesting. When posting on social media it’s necessary to engage discussion away from what your agency is selling. Obviously, it’s required you post products and services, but encouraging and sharing other items from the news will bring your agency a personal, real world connection with your followers.

This aspect of social media brings up the necessity to keep up to date with current events as well as keeping your followers informed about your company. Beside your insurance agent website, your social media account is an important tool for accessing discussing with customers.

Current events can consist of two areas: local and national. By posting local news and events you give your followers information about what’s happening in the community that they may have missed otherwise. For instance, you might share the announcement of a local golf tournament or a summer concert and barbeque on the town green.

From a national standpoint, by posting articles and news stories you’re not only informing your followers of what’s going on in the U.S., but also encouraging mild discussion. You’re causing your agency to interact with others outside of an insurance standpoint.

Additionally, posting and tweeting about your agency’s product’s and service is a must. If you blend in a solid mix of local and national news as well as information you want your followers to know from an insurance standpoint, your social media accounts will have enough diversity to attract users to comment on your posts but also send them along to others.

Social media allows insurance agencies to cultivate a personality with their followers while interacting with them on a regular basis. Because customer service and satisfaction is so crucial to the industry, it’s in your best interesting to share things with potential and existing customers you normally wouldn’t while discussing insurance rates.

For current events, check your local news source. For national news, the New York Times, CNN, Mashable, and Insurance Journal are good places to start.
